Yes, it’s a thing! Deaths caused by selfie sticks, or more the use thereof, have become more common than shark attacks. 49 deaths have been recorded since 2014, all relating to the use of a selfie stick.
The challenge of snapping that ultimate shot for social media sharing has reached a trending new height: 8,000 feet above sea level! Most of these selfie takers tragically met their death by falling off buildings and cliffs while positioning themselves before saying cheese. Others were less responsible and met their fate while trying to capture daredevil antics. There were a few freak accidents that made headlines too, such as “struck by lightning through selfie-stick” and “swept away by ocean current while taking a selfie”.
Stay safe out there (and take less selfies)!
